There is no active shooter at Newport News Shipbuilding

There is no active shooter at Newport News Shipbuilding. Another naval installation conducted an active shooter drill this morning, and a fragmented radio transmission from the drill was received by USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74), which is undergoing its refueling and complex overhaul here at NNS. The ship, not knowing it was a drill, took quick action to lock down the aircraft carrier while they investigated. Other commissioned vessels at NNS also chose to lock down. We support their response and believe they took appropriate action. We expect all ships to release from lock down no later than 10 a.m.
