Newport News Shipbuilding’s Generational Integration Focus Team (GIFT) employee resource group (ERG) was busy during the summer hosting a number of networking events.

GIFT hosted a Virginia Tech Alumni Corporate Networking event at VASCIC with guest speaker Robin Ott, director of Interdisciplinary Capstone at Virginia Tech. During the event, Ott spoke to shipbuilders about new innovations and partnerships between NNS and Virginia Tech. Upon the conclusion of her presentation, attendees ventured over to Coastal Fermentory for hot dogs and alumni networking.

The ERG also hosted a bowling event for shipbuilders and partnered with the Asian Shipbuilders Including All Nationalities (ASIAN) and Advancing New Careers Helping Our Resources Succeed (ANCHORS) ERGs to provide reverse mentoring for interns. Board members were able to mix and mingle with NNS’ summer interns during the networking and professional development event.

“I believe the GIFT bowling event and joint intern reverse mentoring have allowed our NNS team members, along with our summer interns, to get reintroduced to who the GIFT ERG really is. I look forward to seeing more events like these,” said Lewis Fisher, GIFT treasurer.
