The 2024 Year in Review

Published December 18, 2024

Newport News Shipbuilding achieved a number of milestones in 2024, celebrating success in both the aircraft carrier and submarine programs.

The Virginia-Class Submarine Program launched Massachusetts (SSN 798) and completed sea trials for USS New Jersey (SSN 796).

The transfer of the mid-body of Enterprise (CVN 80) will allow for two Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carriers to be constructed in the same dry dock, a first at the shipyard.

Meanwhile, the end of work at the Kenneth A. Kesselring Site in upstate New York marked the end of a successful chapter in the company’s history.

The year ended on a dramatic note with the christening of Arkansas (SSN 800), featuring the submarine’s sponsors, the women of the Little Rock Nine.
