Soctoberfest Exceeds Collection Goal

Published December 18, 2024

Socks are one of the most requested items for the homeless and at-risk populations, and in October Newport News shipbuilders stepped up to help.

The Women in Shipbuilding Enterprise (WiSE) employee resource group hosted “Soctoberfest,” working across all divisions with a goal of donating 2,024 pairs of socks. Employees ended up donating 6,116 pairs that were provided to Link of Hampton Roads Inc.

Shavonne Narwood (E33), WiSE’s director of Community and Outreach, led the coordination for this effort.

As WiSE continues its mission, events like Soctoberfest serve as a reminder of the importance of collaboration, inclusivity, and giving back to the community.
