Shipbuilders from the Blast and Coat team at Newport News Shipbuilding were honored with a luncheon last week. The team was celebrated for success in meeting a commitment for the Virginia-Class Submarine Program during the fourth quarter of 2022.

Leaders – including Julia Jones, vice president of Manufacturing – were on hand to thank shipbuilders for their efforts and time sacrifices prior to and during the holiday shutdown.

“This team showed great resolve and was determined to meet the company operational commitment deliverables, regardless of the degree of difficulty,” said X10 Superintendent Erick Bowden. “In light of the schedule pressures they faced, the team was able to persevere, stay motivated, execute the plan and achieve a major program milestone that exemplifies their steadfast approach on a No-Fail Mission.”

Bowden added the accomplishment helped “improve customer confidence for the VCS program stakeholders to be able to deliver on time deliverables to mitigate downstream schedule impacts.”
