Security Reminder: Always Remain Vigilant
Published February 19, 2025
Newport News shipbuilders must always stand vigilant against threats that could pose a security risk to employees, facilities and equipment. A review of news headlines on any given day should remind everyone that tragedies can affect people of all ages and backgrounds.
“The safety of all employees is our top priority,” said John Clark, director of Security and Emergency Management. He urges company leaders to have discussions with their teams and to ensure contact information is up to date.
Clark added: “Our Security team is equipped with a wealth of expertise in responding to crisis situations. While NNS has not held active shooter drills companywide, the team trains with outside law enforcement agencies to prepare should such a crisis occur.”
Take time to watch “Run Hide Fight,” a video that takes you through an active shooter event as well as capitalizing on the ongoing series of active shooter lunch and learns being offered through your department security representatives (DSRs).
Employees can watch additional videos from the Sandy Hook Promise organization and beTravelwise, which dramatizes the danger of not speaking up and dangers of ignoring warning signs that emphasize the importance of taking ownership for our security.
Lastly, review recently released messages around NNS identification requirements and badge holder responsibilities. Bottom line: If you see something, say something immediately by calling Security at 757-380-2222.
