NNS Releases More Information on Parking Garage
Published December 11, 2024
As announced earlier this year, construction will begin during shutdown on a parking garage between 37th and 39th streets along Huntington Avenue and Warwick Boulevard. It will be built on existing Newport News Shipbuilding parking lots.
The multi-level garage will provide increased parking for both NNS employees and U.S. Navy sailors. The footprint of the garage has been finalized, but NNS is still working to determine total spaces and allocations for shipbuilders and sailors.
NNS will share updates and add information to frequently asked questions as details are confirmed. The current list of FAQs includes information on alternative parking locations, which may be helpful as shipbuilders return to work in January.
With construction beginning during shutdown, the parking lots where the new garage will be built are closing Saturday, Dec. 21, and will remain closed until the new garage opens. To offset the loss of parking in these lots, the following areas have been designated as alternate Zone B parking locations:
- Bldg. 600
- Bldg. 903 Parking Garage (Level 1, 2 and the ramp to level 3)
- Bldg. 902 Parking Garage (Level 1, ramp to level 2 as well as designated Zone B spaces on level 2)
- Bldg. 901 Parking Garage (Levels 1, 2 and 3)
- Bldg. 908 Parking Garage (Level 5)
Additional shuttles will be added into rotation to account for increased ridership. Shuttles will be operational from 4:30 a.m. until 1 a.m. Monday through Friday. NNS will also pilot garage counters in the Bldg. 902 and 903 garages. These counters will include signage to indicate the number of available spaces to drivers. If the pilot goes well, the company anticipates installing the technology in other parking garages.
