NNS is Extending Liberal Leave to First Shift Friday, Feb. 21
Published February 20, 2025
Our essential personnel teams have done an outstanding job of keeping our facility safe. Although we are ready to get back to building ships, we understand that road conditions may remain challenging across our region in the morning.
With the safety of shipbuilders in mind, we are extending liberal leave to first shift Friday, Feb. 21. This means you may return to work if you are able, or use liberal leave.
Because our mission to the U.S. Navy is so important, we are asking that if you can safely make it in tomorrow, to please consider doing so. Our nation needs Newport News ships now more than ever, and that only happens by us showing up to get after it.
We will assess conditions in the morning and make a decision at that time regarding second shift operations.
A few reminders while we remain in liberal leave:
- Parking in NNS lots will remain open during liberal leave.
- NNS shuttle service remains suspended.
- NNS employees working at offsite locations should follow offsite location reporting direction.

Future updates will be communicated via the following channels: Employee Information Phone Line (1-877-871-2058), NNS to Go app, company email, NNS President Kari Wilkinson’s Facebook page and NNS websites.
