New System Expected to Expedite Security Clearances

Published September 13, 2023

The federal government on Oct. 1 will switch to a new system for submitting information required to obtain or renew security clearances, designed to reduce errors and speed processing times.

The web-based application is called eAPP. Newport News Shipbuilding employees can access it via their NNS email account. They can also use their personal email with any device connected to the internet, such as personal computers, tablets and phones.

The new system is designed to catch more errors during the submission process, reducing the number of applications that must be returned due to incomplete or missing information. It will also improve integration with background investigations, adjudication and continuous vetting.

The new application will replace the eQIP app. Employees who have already submitted their information to eQIP, and who have not received final clearance, do not have to re-submit under the new system.

Visit the Clearance Office website on MyNNS to view a user guide and a list of frequently asked questions. NNS plans to start initiating employees on eAPP on Sept. 18. This will allow time to address issues that may arise before the go-live date on Oct. 1.

Any additional questions regarding the transition may be sent to [email protected].
