On Thursday, Dec. 7, L.E.A.R.N. and SHIPs Network co-hosted an after-work event with guest speaker Chris Kastner, HII president and chief executive officer. Kastner kicked off the event by honoring the 2023 L.E.A.R.N. Recognition Class for committing to their continued development and supporting the employee resource group.

His presentation included a video on the history of Newport News Shipbuilding and an HII 2023 year in review, which incorporated highlights from NNS, Ingalls Shipbuilding and Mission Technologies. Kastner closed the event by discussing the importance of knowing your job and taking personal accountability by being committed to what you said you would achieve.

Kastner’s talk “made me pause and self-reflect, because the accountability and commitment comments hit home,” said Preshus Boone (E35). “They align with my role as a Change Agent, which allows me to be to megaphone amongst my peers and model the way.”
