At about 10:40 a.m. today, a vendor’s food truck caught on fire inside the shipyard in the North Yard. Our NNS firefighters immediately responded and contacted the Newport News Fire Department and HAZMAT team for assistance. The fire, which was limited to the food truck, was quickly extinguished. Our thoughts and prayers are with two food truck employees who were transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries.

As you know, safety is our number one priority at Newport News Shipbuilding. Our workforce responded immediately and followed emergency protocols. No shipyard employees, facilities or naval vessels were impacted.

A fire can happen anywhere and at any time. If you see something, please report it immediately. We are working with the vendor and local and federal authorities to determine the cause of the fire.
