Information Regarding Hurricane Idalia
Published August 29, 2023
Newport News Shipbuilding is monitoring Hurricane Idalia. Based on the storm’s current path, Idalia is expected to make landfall in Florida on Wednesday and move up the Southeast coast before heading out to sea later this week. We will continue to monitor the forecast, however, we anticipate remaining in normal operations.
If shipyard operations are impacted, updates will be communicated via the following channels:
- Employee Information Phone Line (1-877-871-2058)
- NNS to Go app
- Company email
- Social Media (HII pages and Jennifer Boykin’s Facebook page)
- NNS websites
As a reminder, NNS has a Waterfront Support Services (X36) weather team that closely monitors forecasts. When storms approach Hampton Roads, NNS works closely with U.S. Navy, city and state officials to remain aware of their plans and other decisions that may impact the community. Based on this information, NNS makes a decision to conduct normal operations or offer liberal leave. When company-wide liberal leave is offered, NNS makes its best effort to provide that information at least four hours before a shift is scheduled to start.
Note: Due to the potential loss of power and internet during severe weather, the Employee Information Phone Line (1-877-871-2058) remains the main communication channel.
