Help Restore Virginia’s Endangered Longleaf Pine Ecosystem
Published November 15, 2023
For 25 years, The Nature Conservancy has led the charge in Virginia to restore the longleaf pine ecosystem to its historic range. Newport News Shipbuilding has unofficially adopted longleaf pine as its signature tree because of the tree’s historic connection to shipbuilding and its link to a resilient future.
Those interested in helping to restore the ecosystem are invited to participate in an event from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, in Waverly. Participants may collect native wildflower and grass seeds, plant longleaf seedlings or prepare the forest for a winter burn.
For details, see the flyer. Shipbuilders should sign up on YourCause.
