Friendly Competition Raises Money for United Way

Newport News Shipbuilding’s Community Relations team thanks everyone who came out to the first NNS Bartender Challenge benefiting United Way of the Virginia Peninsula. The five NNS bartenders served up a large dose of competition among themselves and the crowd, raising more than $800 in tips. The cornhole tournament added to the fun and Coastal Fermentory’s participation contributed to a grand total of $1,523 for United Way.
Karey Malyszko, vice president of Plant Operations, took the top spot in raising money for United Way, using pizza slices as her fundraising edge. “All the bartenders did a great job as well as the cornhole tournament organizers, David Crews, Ean Greene and Tyler Smith,” said Traci Snyder, director of Volunteer Engagement and Corporate Liaison for United Way.
As part of NNS’ continuing commitment to help our neighbors in need, shipbuilders are encouraged to support the company’s $2 million United Way goal this year. Giving is easy. Visit YourCause.com and use your single sign-on to make a one-time or recurring payroll donation.
