The Newport News Shipbuilding Book Club and the Veteran Employee Resource Group (VERG) will cover “All the Ruined Men” by Bill Glose (E82) for their next meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, via Zoom. During the meeting, Bridget Mangino (E86) will lead a discussion of the book with all attendees. Those who would like to attend should click here and type in their name (last, first). “As with all the characters in this book, I was a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division. However, I fought in the Gulf War more than 20 years ago in a barren desert dotted with bunkers. The characters in ‘All the Ruined Men’ are veterans of the more recent wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. They fought house-to-house in urban settings and raced down trash-littered highways in Humvee convoys where any bit of litter might hide an IED. But even though the specifics of our battles were drastically different, our experiences and mindset after coming home from war was the same—the same fears, desires, and haunted dreams,” Glose said.
