August is Ethics and Compliance Awareness Month at Newport News Shipbuilding and across HII. It’s an opportunity to focus on the importance of the company’s ethical culture and values.

“Ethics starts with each of us. Our individual actions and behaviors can either strengthen – or weaken – our ethical culture in an instant,” NNS President Jennifer Boykin wrote in a message to shipbuilders last week.

As a reminder, shipbuilders can anonymously report questionable behavior or actions, 24/7, through the HII OpenLine by calling 1-877-631-0020.

Every week this month, NNS is hosting a series of “Ethics Starts with You” lunch and learn sessions. Shipbuilders can register for the noon-12:30 p.m. sessions on MyNNS. They will focus on the following topics:

• Aug. 8 – The Best of Times: Accurate Time Reporting
• Aug. 15 – Eliminate Your Fears: The Stories I Tell Myself about the OpenLine System
• Aug. 22 – Quality Means Doing It Right When No One is Looking
• Aug. 29 – Protecting the Integrity of Our Work: The Importance of Speaking Up and Reporting Misconduct
