Another Milestone for First Columbia-Class Submarine

General Dynamics Electric Boat’s Holland barge made its first Columbia-class material delivery to Newport News Shipbuilding in late March. This comes after months of collaborative effort between shipbuilders at both facilities. The critical piece of material will complete the bow module for District of Columbia (SSBN 826), the first ship of the Columbia class.
“Collaboration between NNS and Electric Boat was key to the successful delivery of this material to NNS,” said Nathan McInnis, acting superintendent on the Columbia-Class Program. “It is critical to the completion of the bow module, and installation will allow us to move the bow module forward to blast and coat.”
The bow module will be the last and largest module shipped to Electric Boat from NNS for SSBN 826.
